Curator's statement

Temenos: meaning to cut is the Greek term in archaeology given to a piece of land which forms the enclosure of a temple or sanctuary. A holy space, the temenos is a delimited zone where certain rules apply and where visions can be enacted.

The Temenos Studios, situated on the foreshore of a beach, offer a space of retreat for a group of artists who meet regularly within the walls of the studio.

The friends of the Temenos Studios are women who focus on healing in their care for the Great Community of Life.

Each voice is unique, yet all resonate with the same concerns. Our stories have a way of holding us as we traverse treacherous ground on our quest to find a safe passage through to a future which honours the ways of our ancestors and embraces spiritual ecology as a way forward. We hold a joyful vision of the return of integrity of Earth for our children and seven generations to come, a vision worthy of the human spirit.

'Endangered. Drawing the Line' has grown from regular meetings in the studio, from conversations and story, and a shared desire to make a difference as artists in an ever changing world.
